My Guardian Angel
She was like something out of a Wild Wild West movie, she didn't carry guns but her courage and drive to protect us was enough to scare any enemy into leaving us alone, she had red hair and a loving heart like no other, adopted from my cousins who said she was just too much of a handful, they said she tore up yard furniture and could no longer carry the responsibility of training her, I tested her out with my daughter first, instant best friends, never gave us any problems whatsoever, completely house trained and gentle toward us, she slept with my kid every night from then on, even the cats cuddled with her, my daughter used to put her in dresses and paint her nails, she was invited to every single one of her veterinary meetings that were held in her pink fairy tale tent, imagine a 5 year old dragging an 80 pound dog all over the house to play, not once did she ever growl or bite, in a way our dog Princess adopted my daughter, they were siblings, they grew up together, she kept us safe even through the worst storms, I can still remember the day she had two FPL workers pinned up against the pole because they had come too close to the house for her comfort, she had a wicked sense if intuition and you better believe others prayed that they fell in her good graces, but her heart belonged to the kids, she loved being "momma" and nothing pleased her more than knowing how well she protected every child she met, half chow chow and half pit, this dog went through the worst of times with us, from having no place to live to moving to New Jersey, all the times we had barely enough money to even feed her or get her the proper care, she never once complained or whimpered, she stood by my side with honor as the best partner anyone could ask for, she was my big red dog and god knows how much I love her, we went against all odds and I know in my heart I failed because I didn't get her the proper care that could of saved her life, I didn't pay attention to the signs, even at the very end it didn't feel like it was her time, skin and bone, barely walking and I still had hope, it was a tumor and liver disease that brought me to make the decision to put her down, it's something I will have to make peace with if I am to move forward, no being in this world deserves to suffer without proper care, I asked for her forgiveness before she left, I spoke to her about how I take full responsibility for what had happened and how she was always amazing, I would have switched places with her had I been given the chance, she is now and will forever be my beautiful Princess, from my heart to Gods ears - ~Will "Story" Rivera
